Money Matters
Raising a child can be very costly - from nappies, clothes and buggies to the loss of earnings, childcare and the need of a bigger home. Whatever your circumstances, whether you are studying, working or unemployed it's possible you are eligible for some financial support. If you feel that you need to find a job or return to work in order to provide more support for your family, the Job Centre has a wide range of services detailing retraining, benefit calculation etc. Also your local Children’s Centre can also provide useful information regarding training courses in your area.
Tips from OxonDads
• Try to plan a budget – estimate your incomings and outgoings for a week, a month or even six months in advance.
• Try to keep to your plans – even a small overspend each week may lead to a debt problem.
• Make sure you get all the financial support and benefits that you are entitled to.
• If you get hard up or into debt look for money advice surgeries
• Credit unions can lend money at very reasonable rates. Their website will show you a branch near you.
• Avoid loan sharks and credit card debt to help meet pressing bills. They will probably make things worse.
